The 9th Guanghua International Nursing Conference China Meeting in Beijing was a Success
On May 30-31, 2012, a kick off meeting for the ninth Guanghua International Nursing Conference China was successfully held by GIEA in Beijing. This is the first time the nursing conference is to be held abroad. The conference in May was the kick-off meeting for the China area. This conference invited the participants of the Health Ministry, British Council, Beijing Nursing Workers Association, Beijing Nursing Quality Control and Improvement Center and the other relevant institutions at home and abroad, as well as nearly one hundred hospitals and colleges. This convention not only provided a platform for Sino-foreign nursing education cooperation and communication, as well as strategic ideas about nursing education’s reform and development.
The Meeting Scene
This meeting invited the following people to attend and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony: Li Shujia, President of Beijing Nursing Workers Association; Lin Ying, President of GIEA; Gong Lihua, Vice President of GIEA; Zhang Junhua, Deputy Director of Health Ministry Talent Communication Center; Zheng Yining, Director of Beijing Nursing Quality Control and Improvement Center; Zhao Xi, of British Embassy Trade and Investment Agency; Zhang Jing, Director of British Council Higher Education Program; and the the representatives of Alberta, Canada. At the meeting, GIEA announced that the Sino-British International Scientific Research Institution had been set up with the British GSE Research Center, and held the inaugural ceremony at the scene. Afterwards, GIEA accepted the invitation from Alberta to visit Canada.

The Opening Ceremony
The President of GIEA, Lin Ying delivered a speech at the meeting. She introduced the Nurse Fund’s history, nursing’s development, and nursing education’s policy change. Afterwards, she gave a detailed analysis of the current situation of nursing and how to face the existing problems, as well as put forward some strategies to solve it. She advocated that we should break the gap between industries, colleges, schools, enterprises, and regions, in order to realize resource sharing, win-win cooperations, and promote the development of nursing together.

In the morning of May 30, Vice President of Glasgow Caledonian University, Professor Veronica James gave a detailed introduction at the meeting. Next, Steering Committee Member of National Vocational Education Reform and Innovation and Deputy Head of Chinese Vocational Education Committee, Mr Yang Ke delivered a speech on the topic: A Study on Vocational Development of Nursing Profession and Training System of Modern Nursing Professionals, which was a sub-topic of the “12th Five-Year Plan”Research Project of Education Ministry--Modern Vocational Education System Construction. Afterwards, Yu Zuguang, Deputy Head of Central Institute for Vocational & Technical Education, and Liu Zhifang, Director of Research Division and The National Association of China Vocational Education respectively gave a special report on the topic: Construction of Nursing Culture, and Carrying Forward Humanity-oriented Nursing Education with Huang Yanpei’s Concepts on Vocational Education.

In the afternoon, on May 30, the conference respectively set up a Clinical and Teaching Venue. Director of Guanghua International Nursing Development Research Center, Zhang Yafeng gave a detailed introduction on the topic: How Does Guanghua Nurse Fund Support the Development of the Nursing Profession. Shang Shaomei, professor of Peking University Nursing College; Professor Liu Xin, President Assistant of Public Management Institute and Renmin University of China; Professor Wu Xinjuan, Vice Director General of Chinese Nursing Association and Director of Nursing Department Peking Union Medical College Hospital; and Ms. Li Chunyan, Secretary-general of Beijing Nursing Association, respectively gave detailed reports on the four subjects: Clinical Care Teaching Plans Based on Clinical Needs--Students’ Clinical Care Competency Cultivation, Construction of Nursing Human Resource System--Relation between Nurse Grading Management, Performance Evaluation and Salary System, Formation and Implementation of Nurses’ Incentive System, and Nurse Specialist Training in Beijing. Afterwards, the leaders of Glasgow Caledonian University, Sheffield Hallam University, Worcester University, Anglia Ruskin University, Canterbury Christ Church University, Canada Athabasca University Science and Technology College, etc. respectively gave detailed accounts on their special nursing education training courses, the arrangement of senior nursing training curriculum, and expressed their hope to mutually learn and develop together with Chinese medical colleges.

During the evening of May 30, Teaching Venue: Exploration and Communication on Vocational Development of Nursing and Training Systems of Modern Nursing Professionals, a sub-topic for Economy-oriented System Construction of Modern Vocational Teaching, the “ 12th Five-Year Plan” Research Project of the Ministry of Health took place.
On May 31, Clinical Venue: The meeting was held by Mr. Zhang, Director of Nursing Department at Beijing Friendship Hospital, and Dean of the hospital, gave a welcome to the participants. The participants included: Lin Ying, President of GIEA; Li Shujia, President of Beijing Nursing Workers Association; Wu Jinfeng, Vice president; and the representatives of the foreign nursing colleges. This conference explored and communicated about the topics: the Standard of Assessment Criteria of Care Services, System Building of Training Programs in Specialized Care Areas, System Construction of Nurses’ Human Resources, Performance Assessment and Salary system, etc. At the meeting, the domestic nursing industries and hospitals’ representatives had a heated discussion with foreign nursing colleges. Afterwards, under the guidance of Dean Zhang, the participants visited Beijing Friendship Hospital. So far, the ninth Guanghua International Nursing Conference China Meeting has been a success.
