On the morning of May 5, 2014, the International Nursing Vocational Innovation Education Cooperation Conference was successfully held in Beijing. This conference was hosted by Guanghua International Education Association (GIEA). The participate institution included: Canadian Embassy Cultural and Education Council, Seneca College, American International Communication Institution, Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education, National Teaching Instruction Committee of Civil Affairs Vocational Education, Peking University Foreign Language College, etc. Meanwhile, the school leaders of Henan University Nursing College, Heilongjiang Nursing Higher College, Xinxiang Medical University Sanquan College, Changchun Medical Higher College, Qujing Medical Higher College, Ya’an Vocational Technical College also attended the meeting. The participant leaders had a deep discussion on the allied training of internationalized nursing personnel and international nursing curriculum, as well as credits mutual recognition.

At the beginning of the conference, Lin Ying, the president of GIEA, gave a welcome speech, and introduced the purpose and significance of international nursing personnel training. In addition, she emphasized that we should enhance our communication and practical cooperation.

Then, Yu Zuguang, President of Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education, gave a detailed introduction on the development direction of Ministry of Education’s teaching reform. He said that the meeting was held in a good timing, and successfully responded to the spirit of Ministry of Education’s program: Schema of Education Planning and the Ten-year Planning of Education Informatization. The spirit of these two programs is: focus on promoting the deep integration of information technology and higher education, promoting education content, teaching means and methods modernization, innovating talents training, scientific research organizations and social service model, pushing forward the innovation of cultural inheritance, and promoting the improvement of higher vocational education quality.

The representative of Canadian Embassy Cultural and Education Council, Counselor Song Yijun firstly expressed his support on the cooperation of GIEA and Toronto in nursing education. Meanwhile, he gave a detailed introduction on Canadian Government's SPP Plans.

President of Seneca College, David Agnew, gave an integrated introduction about his college for the participate leaders. He said, Seneca College was the largest college in Toronto, Canada. The students came from more than 100 countries and speak more than 70 languages in his school. The college has a very complete vocational education system. The graduation employment rate has been 99% every year. Mr. Agnew hoped that in the future cooperation with Chinese colleges, there were not only Chinese students studying in Canada, but also more Canadian students studying in China.

Next, Director of Seneca College Nursing School, Maria May gave an introduction on the general situation of Nursing School, as well as the characteristic of nursing teaching and senior care teaching. Meanwhile, she also introduced the detailed arrangements of Canada senior care teachers’ training for the participated leaders, which will be held in July.

After the speech of Seneca College’s leaders, the Secretary General of GIEA and President David Agnew signed the Momorandum of Understanding.

The seven school leaders and representatives from all over the country, respectively signed the MOU with Maria May, Director of Seneca College Nursing School.

For the international nursing personnel training, Peking University Foreign Language College has developed a series of courses, including: Nursing English, Public English, IELTS, etc. Liang Bo, Professor of Peking University Foreign Language Department, gave a detailed introduction on the courses.

At the same time, in order to provide the foreign practice for international nursing talents, GIEA cooperated with American International Communication Institution on American Paid Internship Program for nursing students. The manager of American International Communication Institution, Liang Wenjing gave a detailed introduction on the program.

At the end of the conference, Secretary General of GIEA, Gong Lihua introduced international nursing curriculum for the participants. The courses included: International Nursing Courses, Professional English, Public English, IELTS and specialized training courses, etc. She also gave a detailed introduction on the function and use of teaching platform.

Through the face to face communication of domestic and foreign leaders, this conference laid a good foundation for the deep cooperation of domestic and foreign colleges.
