May 7, 2014, Guanghua International Education Association (GIEA) Secretary General Ms. Gong Lihua, Hua Liu, director of the International Department and other two staff members, along with Maria May, Dean of Nusing School, Seneca College visited Beijing Social Management Vocational College. They met Wang Ying,Vice President, Zhao Honggang Director of Office of teaching affairs, Meng Lingjun, Director of Department of Social Services elderly services and Management, and Liu Bowen, project director of Department of International Cooperation. The three parties made an in-depth discussion on the national project of senior care vocational faculty training which will be held in Canada this July and the potential international cooperation projects.

First of all, the three parties all made a brief introduction about themselves respectively, including major construction, faculty training and the existed international cooperation projects. Then they focused on the national project of senior care vocational faculty training. Ms. Maria May said this project was tailored for the college teachers of senior care in China with diverse content and innovative teaching method, including:

1.Teaching Section In this section, they will focus on the general situation of Canadian senior care education, education and employment standards for senior care, and the curriculum, syllabus and teaching methods of Canadian senior care education. Teaching methods will include cases, scenarios, group discussion, simulation, teamwork, network teaching and other comprehensive ways to make the teachers fully experience the innovative and interactive elder care teaching in Canada.

2.Visiting Section They will arrange the teachers to visit the simulation training center and laboratories of Seneca College and local hospitals, nursing homes, community health service centers to make the teachers to experience the senior care teaching and the agencies operating in Canada.

3. Classroom Observing Section There are elder nursing courses all year round in Seneca College. And the nursing summer school will open up in this July, so the teachers could participate in the senior care training as observers, learn the way how the Canadian teachers teach and organize classroom activities, the interaction between students and teacher-student.

4. Nursing Research Section Seneca College has undertaken a lot of research work related to the nursing profession for many years, and the research achievements have made a tremendous impact both in Canada and the world. In this training, Seneca College will organize the relevant research leaders to introduce the implements and achievements of their research projects and exchange experiences with the participating teachers.

Zhao Honggang and Meng Lingjun, said that the arrangement of this training was very diverse, including teaching, visiting, experience, interaction and communication. They believed that the participating teachers would surely benefit from this training. In this regard, Maria said the training was completely tailored to the Chinese vocational college teacher, the curriculum and activities were very suitable for the senior care major. She hoped the teachers could provide comments and suggestions as much as possible. Finally, the Director Zhao and Maria have expressed full confidence and expectations about the training. And they were thankful for Guanghua International Education Association’s hard work. With GIEA’s great help, the cooperation between all the parties will be deeper and more extensive.
