On May 20,2013,Brian McMullan,st Catherine's Mayor of the Niagara region,Ontario, Canada, ,altogether with the municipal goverment officials,was invited to Beijing to visit Guanghua International Education Association.They had a meeting and effective and pleasant discussion on the jointly training of international nursing talents with President LIN Ying and Secretary-general Gong Lihua.Through the meeting, both sides reached a consensus after consultation,initially formed sino-canada joint training of specialists in the field of international nursing cooperation framework and the five-year plan.

This opportunity for cooperation and the preliminary formation of the five-year plan are based on the Canadian government students cooperation plan (Student Partners Program, SPP).SPP plan are formally implemented in China in July 2012 to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada and the introduction of advanced Chinese talents to Canada.According to Mr.McMullan,the SPP program policy are more flexible now for the applicants’ IELTS scores.Students who didn’t take the IELTS exam or whose results below 5.5 points could apply for the language+ professional dual admission. Niagara college has a language learning center. Students could start to learn the professional courses and choose to continue their education for the senior nursing courses after getting the certificate as long as they take the advanced English class on a regular basis,meet the requirements and receive the approval by their mentors.Meanwhile, students can apply for a work permit after their arrival in Canada for six months.They could take a part time job during their study for the nurse qualifications in the future in order to get more opportunities for their personal development.It is reported that Ontario will enroll 30,000 international students in the next a few years, of which about 10,000 places are set aside for Chinese students.

Guanghua International Education Association will introduce the SPP program to the students from domestic nursing colleges and the exsiting medical care personnel.We will continue to introduce the foreign advanced nursing education resources to China, including the foreign nursing professional learning,exchanging and training informations to provide more development opportunities for domestic nursing talents.Mr. McMullan also said his government would support the development of nursing education in China, and he expected for more win-win cooperations with Chinese nursing education providers.
