Fourth Stop: Zhangzhou Health Vocational College
After the successful tour of Xiamen Higher Medical College, the British experts and staff continued to another school in Fujian. They visited Zhangzhou Health Vocational College- a professional nursing college.
At the beginning of the meeting, the president of Zhangzhou Health Vocational College gave a speech about the conference to welcome the British experts. He also gave a brief introduction about Zhangzhou Health Vocational College’s history, ambitions, and honors.
After the speech of the British Anglia Ruskin University’s representative, the British experts gave a detailed interpretation on simulation teaching in nursing education for all of the participants leaders, teachers, and students. This lecture was displayed with a video, aimed to be realistic and comprehensive in order to reflect the nursing teaching scene of British colleges. The presentation was aimed to help students turn their knowledge learned from simulated teaching into practical skills and work abilities, and to improve their confidence in work.
Afterwards, during the Chinese and British communication meeting, Zhangzhou Health Vocational College's teachers and students actively put forward their concerns and problems to the British experts.
The teachers had some of the following questions: what requests are asked for Chinese students to study in the UK ? Is it difficult to work in England? How the students in the UK will participate and practice? As for those problems, the British experts pointed out: First, students should have higher English abilities, and a specialized course mark will be referenced. As students of a Chinese college, they can take a one-year undergraduate course, and then according to their personal situation, can formulate a development plan. There is usually a special instructor in British practice, who will communicate with students in advance, and inform them of assessment models. Then the professional teachers will teach specialized subjects to the students, and they will receive a comprehensive evaluation according to the score given by the instructor. As for working in England, the request of students' English level is higher. The students are asked to receive a score of 7 points or above for IELTS examinations, and in addition, they also need to have a special observation period before they can apply to work in England.
As for nursing teaching, many teachers showed great interest in the arrangement of British college courses, including: the combination of the nursing department and clinical department, the ways to implement the nursing simulation teaching, and the relationship of general courses, basic medical courses, professional courses, and teaching models, etc. And the British experts made detailed answers towards those questions.
In short, British education not only focuses on fostering the students' professional skills, but also pays more attention to developing the students' personality, emotional intelligence, the ability to communicate with people, lifelong learning, and the ability to find and solve problems. It is aimed to have students understand that they are global citizen of the world, and to let them learn how help other people and respect their culture.
