It was an honor to invite the parliament MLA of Calgary, Canada, Ms. Honourable Teresa Woo-Paw; the former minister of Education and Health Ministry, Mr. Ma Jianwei (Gary G.); and six other experts to take part in the conference. The other participant leaders included: President Lin Ying; Vice President Gong Lihua; Dr. Li Xiang of Guanghua International Quality Assurance Committee; and the director of the International Department of GIEA Ms. Liu Hua, etc.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Lin Ying gave a warm welcome to Ms. Honourable Teresa Woo-Paw and the visiting parliamentary group, and briefly introduced GIEA. Furthermore, she sincerely invited Ms. Honourable Teresa Woo-Paw and the other participants to take part in the ninth Guanghua International Nursing Conference in London.
Afterwards, Ms. Honourable Teresa Woo-Paw expressed her excitement towards her visit to China, as this was the first time as the associate minister of Alberta International and Government Relations department. She introduced Alberta’s great attention towards education internationalization, especially in terms of their international nursing education program. Furthermore, she gave a detailed introduction on the international nursing education in Alberta. First, they devoted resources to strengthen their cooperation with Asia and established an Asia Advisory Committee. Teresa Woo-Paw was appointed to be the chairman, in order to provide advice on how to cooperate with the Asian governments. Second, they put forward the overseas internship program to strengthen the contact with overseas students and provide more internship opportunities for Alberta’s outstanding graduates. Third, in Alberta exists a large gap in labor, and they urgently need talented people from all industries. Fourth, as for health care, Alberta will build 140 home care centers in the next three years.
According to the situation of Alberta, Ms. Gong LiHua gave a detailed interpretation on the five-year construction plan of advanced nursing. She claimed that both sides should have more cooperation in many aspects and strengthen the international communication between nursing teachers and students via an overseas trainee program. According to the English ability requirements of foreign colleges, she recommended that both Chinese and foreign colleges should invest more in student's language learning.
During the conference, the Chinese and foreign experts discussed actively. Asia Commissioner Mr. Ma Jianwei was concerned if the senior nursing training system would deliver the proper professional skills, practice and employment direction for the students and how to effectively manage issues. Dr. Li Xiang agreed that it was very necessary to strengthen student’s professional language training. She also explained the three levels of Chinese nursing students and the internship situation.
Under a friendly and lively atmosphere, both sides shared their own professional information, which deepened the understanding and trust in each other, and laid a solid foundation on a number of international cooperations for the future.
