On March 16, 2013 at 9:00 am, the Guanghua International Education Association(GIEA) invited Professor Frank Keruo to Beijing 301 Hospital (Chinese PLA Institute / PLA medical school) to launch a “Research Methods about the Nursing Industry and Overseas Publishment “lecture and the majority of nurses and hospitals communicated their interaction on the research of the nursing experience. GIEA’s Secretary General Gong Lihua and Director Lin Ying attended the lecture, this lecture gained the support and the leadership of the 301 Hospital, and got a positive response from the participants. Ms. Li Xiang conducted the translation, and provided accurate and wonderful communication in order to have interactive content.
Frank Keruo is a Professor of Health and Life Sciences at the British Glasgow Caledonian University, and is an expert on nursing and health care management. Keruo, has instructed in the UK and overseas (particularly in South America, the Middle East and Bangladesh) and has experience, both in professional counseling and education development and has won high praise for this work. In the lecture, Professor Keruo spoke about his nursing experiences in the UK, he also discussed a step by step explanation of his published scientific research methods and nursing research overseas. He emphasized, with scientific research that nurse professionals must have clinical nursing practice and nursing decision making, and prove that "why we (nurses), why it is the right thing to do". Nursing is a kind of "evidence-based practice", published by scientific research and achievements, and the importance of nurses and their professional status will eventually attain broader social recognition and support.
As editor of the famous British Journal of Nursing, Professor Keruo published nursing scientific research overseas, and introduced four popular research topics at the 2013 Royal Nursing Association Annual. He encouraged Chinese nurses to actively research published academic journals about nursing overseas. Professor Keruo pointed out, that the world has been concerned about the Chinese nursing career, and China has numerous excellent nursing personnel, and that they should take the initiative to share China’s nursing experiences and achievements with the world. At the same time, Chinese nurses will benefit from overseas expert’s recommendations and advice, about how to promote the development of scientific nursing research. At the 301 Hospital, several nurses presented to Professor Keruo about their scientific research results, and gained great recognition and praise from Professor Keruo.
The outcome of this meeting, included Professor Keruo pointing out the benefits of overseas advancement, the Guanghua Nurse Association’s purpose and mission being of similar standing, namely: through extensive overseas exchanges, the introduction and use of advanced foreign education resources, improving the professional level and professional knowledge of Chinese nurses, promoting the Chinese nursing career and the international standards for an advanced nursing system, and also to promote the internationalization of the Chinese nursing education system.
